U16B Lge Semi Final -  Weds 16 July 25.

Hard luck to the U16b panel , as they went down to OLoughlin Gaels in the League semi final.

A great effort by all the girls , missing key players required extra effort and there was plenty on show.

OLoughlin Gaels 3-11 Piltown 0-09

Minor A.C LEAGUE - Monday 14July.

MULLINAVAT 2 – 12       PILTOWN 1 – 18

We came away from Muileann an Bhata with the victory after a very entertaining 60 minutes , 3 points separated the sides at the final whistle in a game that was tit for tat right up until the 55th minute before Piltown pulled away to close out the game.

The home side had the breeze in the first half as they aimed for the road goal , and it took Leah Davis two minutes to get the first score, Grace Farrell replied with the first of many frees that would be awarded to the away side, and Grace rarely misses. Mullinavat scores were spread out though as they had dangerous attackers bursting forward at every opportunity, and as a result of one of those bursts Leah Davis was dragged back and a penalty given. Sarah Walsh stood over it, and the number 11 made no mistake putting it past stand in keeper Emily Falconer.

We had a goal of our own in the 15th minute as Grace burst forward, hit a well judged shot that is a keepers nightmare , high but just under the crossbar, and slightly towards the corner, and it went into the net from 20 yards past Saoirse Corcoran. Sarah Walsh got another two points, Grace also, with the extremely quick and a nightmare to mark Emma Dempsey getting on the scoresheet also. No need for water breaks tonight though as the cool breeze blowing down the pitch ,and the threatening grey heavy clouds overhead were in stark contrast to our Junior game in the sun yesterday.

HALF TIME – Mullinavat Gaa 1-07 Piltown Camogie 1 -06

The second half got back under way, the clouds still grey , heavy and threatening, the breeze blowing down the pitch in our favour, and straight away Grace Farrell was scoring again, point after point, left, right, frees it didn’t matter. It went over the bar.

Mullinavat were fighting back though with the dangerous number 13 Leah Davis getting three points in a row for the home side, as the game started to come to the boil. Midfielder Kate Anthony who was unusually quiet until now , burst through and raised a white flag in the 47th minute to leave us one point behind. Grace pointed another three, the battling Rachel Coady made space and created a score for herself from a difficult position. Then in the 53rd minute the Home side got their second goal, with Kerrie Ann OConnor taking advantage of a loose pass, a missed tackle, and she buried it in the net to put her team three up. It was a very even game , who would claim the win?

The fast Vat forwards were running the back 6 around, but if they beat one defender there was always another there to cover and clear, and in the 55th minute with the game level, Mullinavat burst forward, Emma Dempsey drew the defender, and batted the ball in over her head, to where KerrieAnn OConnor waited , 21 yrds out, she looked odds on favourite to score, but one of our Fabulous Fogartys , Kate somehow got back, put OConnor off, won the ball and cleared it and probably saved the match.

The Vat heads seemed to drop and Piltown took over with Grace tagging the last three points to give us the victory.

A great game of camogie, well done to both sides. A great effort from all involved!
